Through out 2013 Archeox volunteers have been investigating the contents and context of a collection of stone tools made in the early years of the 20th century by Oxford antiquarian Alexander James Montgomerie Bell.  The collection comes from the Iffley Fields area of East Oxford, close to the junction of Donnington Bridge Road and Iffley Road. Today the collection is held in the Pitt Rivers Museum.  Researchers at the museum have conducted biographic research into Bell himself, as well as more detailed research on the original find spots for his Iffley Fields finds.  

Research for the Archeox project has involved a detailed examination of the Mesolithic, Neolithic and Early Bronze Age elements of the Bell collection and the excavation of a series of test pits in an attempt to better understand the original context of the artefacts in the collection. Research is ongoing, when completed results will be uploaded to this page.
