Investigating prehistoric landscapes
New Archeox team member Olaf Bayer will talk about his on-going research
into prehistoric landscapes in Devon and Hampshire. He will also talk
about how this type of research might be adapted to study the prehistory
of our area in East Oxford.
Olaf's work in Devon has used the evidence of flint scatters (stone
tools recovered from ploughed fields), in combination with geophysical
survey and excavation, to examine changing patterns of inhabitation
between the Mesolithic and Early Bronze Age. He is also involved with
the Damerham Archaeology Project which is investigating prehistoric
monuments, including two long barrows, discovered from aerial
photographs in west Hampshire (www.damerhamarchaeology.org).
