Blackbird Leys test pitting weekend
We will be having one of our major test-pit digging weekends in the Leys over a weekend in May: this is a very exciting opportunity to work in the heart of the Romano-British pottery industry but also where Medieval and Anglo-Saxon archaeology has been discovered. The Leys WI are our enthusiastic and welcoming partners in this weekend.
Complete beginners are very warmly welcome; training and all equipment will be provided. The days will last from around 9.15am to about 4.30-5pm. All you need to bring are enthusiasm and your lunch. If you do not want to dig but would like to take part let us know, because people are always needed to sort and wash finds; it's even more exciting if we can clean finds there and then.
Please let us know now if you would like to participate in this weekend. Tell us if you would like to do the whole weekend, but also which day you would prefer if we have to limit people to one day.
We will select teams both to give new people a chance to participate and to include more experienced diggers. We will be digging half a dozen pits, however, so plenty of places! We will confirm places and arrangements by 25 April 2012 - let us know if this causes difficulties. Further details of the weekend will be sent out then.
