Finds sorting: Test Pit Finds
The finds are from test pits (small 1 metre by 1 metre excavations) in gardens and alotments all over east Oxford.
Sorting involves separating all the finds from a particular layer in the ground and sorting them into categories such as bone, pottery and tile. We then fill in a simple recording sheet and take a photograph.
The finds are then sent off to experts for more detailed analysis and dating.
Its a great way to see the huge range of finds that were uncovered during these mini excavations in east Oxford. This event is free for anyone too attend- new volunteers are welcome! For places and information contact jo@archeox.net
