Test pit

Test pits are excavation in miniature. All the processes that are carried out on a full scale-excavation, such as digging, recording, drawing, photography and taking soil samples, take place during the excavation of a test pit. Over the next three years we hope to dig as many test pits as possible. If you are interested in digging a test pit in your garden please contact Jane@archeox.net.

Test pit 71: 47 Fairacres Road

Introduction: Test pit 71 is one of a series of test pits excavated in the Iffley Fields area during 2012/13. These test pits were excavated in order to locate a spread of prehistoric activity said to have been found in this area by A.M.Bell in the late 19^th/early 20th century.

Test Pit 62: 9 Sandford Road

Introduction: Test pit 62 was one of a series of test pits excavated in the historic core of Littlemore in June 2013. It is located in the back garden of 9 Sandford Road. 9 Sandford Road is set slightly back from the street and was constructed in the late 1970s/1980s.

Introduction: One of a series of test pits excavated in the historic core of Littlemore in July 2013. Test pit 61 is located in the back garden of 1 David Nicholls Close. David Nicholls Close was built in the mid-1990s in the grounds of Lawn Upton House built in 1846 (see figure 3).
